Downtown Circulator Service Economic Impact Assessment

More News & Resources:

A 2006 economic impact assestment of the Austin, TX, streetcar has been added to Best Practices.

This economic impact analysis of providing fixed guideway circulator service from the Austin Convention Center to Seaholm and from 4th Street to 10th St. on Congress Avenue was prepared for the city of Austin by Capitol Market Research in 2006.

The study found that extension of rail service into and through downtown Austin will enhance the customer base and labor pool available and have a positive impact on land values.

"These results show a substantial growth in the tax base of the study area and overall a 25.8% increase in assessed value as a result of adding a fixed guideway circulator system into and through downtown," the study concluded.
